For three hundred and sixty-four days of the year, we walk into our school, enjoy its all-encompassing beauty and boast of it to all our acquaintances. But seldom with the 'Our school' do we attach the phrase "Our uncles and aunties..." Yet, they are the loving, dedicated and hard-working people who really make the difference and bring home that 'TTIS Best Maintained School Award', the award that we cherish ever so much. And indeed on the three hundred and sixty-fifth day, when we celebrate the May Day, it is a tribute to the tireless efforts put in by our support staff. It is an acknowledgement of the love and care that is incessantly showered on us.
This year, the auspicious occasion of May Day was celebrated on the second of May, the organizers being the students of class 12, ably guided by their class-teachers. The various committees that were in charge of all the items to be performed, the food, the tokens of appreciation were taken care of well in advance and were running on full steam even a fortnight before the actual event.
The day of the celebration was declared open by the traditional lighting of the lamp by Reverend Father Rector, our Prefect and representatives from the teaching and the non-teaching staff. After invoking the blessings of God, Father Rector gave an inspiring speech about the inseparable nature of the people whose Herculean efforts we were to celebrate that day. He thanked all those unnoticed people, who, with a smile on their faces, help to light up all our faces.
The performance by the students was kick-started by a band performance in Bengali, the song being 'Hariye Tomay'. It was a beautiful and soothing melodious retreat for everybody. Each member of the non-teaching staff was then handed over a small token of appreciation by Reverend Father Rector.
This was followed by performances by the boys from the Technical Section, the first being a slow melodious rendition of the song Aadat, accompanied by beautiful strums on the acoustic guitar. After the song, the stage was set on fire again by the 'Technically' perfect boys as they gave a boneless dance performance to some of the most popular tracks.
A brief movie was presented next, wherein our uncles and aunties were captured in their services of love and care. We students realized how insensitive we acted on many occasions. We also realized how privileged we were to be supported by people who, with their labour, refill the voids left by our mistakes. It was indeed a touching presentation and the audience was truly moved.
The band of class 12 then took the stage and belted out a few very popular songs. The song 'Zara Si Dil Mein De Jagah Tu' amply expressed our love and appreciation for our non-teaching staff. The performance earned rave reviews.
The unconventional orchestra was next up on stage and they outlined the mood of the day. Their version of 'Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re' underlined the gusto with which the non-teaching community undertakes its gigantic task, while 'Jai Ho' expressed appreciation and gratitude for the same.
The dance performance that followed was staged by the school dance troop. Their theme for this performance 'Behind The Scenes' aptly described the invaluable services rendered by our uncles and aunties. The performance was greatly appreciated and was a treat for the senses.
